The Middle Country Central School District at Centereach is governed by a nine-member Board of Education. Members serve without pay for staggered, three-year terms. Candidates for the Board of Education must be qualified voters of the school district. They are nominated by a petition, signed by at least two percent of the actual voters in the last annual budget vote and school board election.
The School Board sets local district policy and is responsible to the New York State Education Department. The School Board appoints the Superintendent of Schools, who is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the schools.
Middle Country School Board meetings are noted on our calendar and are posted in all district buildings and the public library. All School Board meetings are open to the public except for executive sessions when confidential matters are discussed in accordance with the Open Meetings Law.
