• Programming & Design: Where logic meets creativity.

• Fashion Design & Apparel Construction: Bringing original concepts to the runway.

• Woodworking Technology: Mastering the craft of building and precision.

• Cosmetology 1: Defining the future of the beauty industry.

The feedback was nothing short of wonderful! Our students appreciated the chance to share their passions, and the Board members were truly impressed by the skill and dedication on display. "Anything But Hair!"
Click to expand/collapse an expanded description.

As they enter their final quarter and complete their cosmetology licensing hours, our Newfield High School senior cosmetology students take part in a creative capstone project titled “Anything But Hair.”

Throughout the program, students have worked extensively with mannequins, practicing a wide range of haircutting techniques since the beginning of their junior year. Over time, these mannequins have been transformed through countless styles, lengths, and textures as students build and refine their skills. The haircutting unit concludes with barbering techniques, where students finish by buzzing off the remaining hair.

For their final project, students are challenged to reimagine their mannequin by selecting a theme and designing a completely new “look” using anything except actual hair. This project encourages innovation, artistic expression, and out-of-the-box thinking.

The results are truly impressive—each design reflects the students’ unique creativity, personality, and growth throughout the program.

Student Entrepreneurship in Action at our Middle Schools
Click to read more.

Real-world learning taking place in our 8th-grade entrepreneurship classes. As part of a branding unit, students were challenged to create a fictional dog-walking business. The project required them to identify a target market, develop a brand identity, and design a logo that clearly communicated their service. Students presented their work, explained their design choices, and connected them to core business concepts such as branding, customer appeal, and differentiation.

This photo features two DMS students whose logo was selected as a shining example of professional logo design execution. To reinforce the idea that strong ideas have real-world value, their logo was printed on t-shirts as a way to celebrate their work and make the experience tangible.

Projects like this help students see entrepreneurship as more than a concept—it becomes something they can build, explain, and take pride in. It also reflects the broader work we do every day to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that connect curriculum to practical skills such as creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Centereach High School Moot Court Team Excels at Long Island Competition
Click to read more

Congratulations to the first ever Centereach High School’s Moot Court Team for their outstanding performance at the 8th Annual Long Island Mentor Moot Court Competition, where they won one out of two arguments! The four competitors—Junior Johanna Bagnasco, Junior Molly Butler, Junior Ashley Bagnasco, and Senior Lily Collins,—presented their arguments before a distinguished panel of seasoned judges. They skillfully debated issues involving the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, focusing on custodial interrogation and the search and seizure of a cellphone in a school setting.

The Long Island Mentor Moot Court Competition asked participating teams to role-play as mock lawyers and present arguments about a fictional lawsuit, with real-life judges questioning them as they would in an actual court proceeding. The competition was held at the federal courthouse in Central Islip on December 3rd from 4:00pm-6:30pm. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for our students to gain essential legal skills, advocate for their beliefs, think on their feet, and conduct in-depth research. Well done to the team for their hard work and dedication!
