On December 5, 2025, College Business Law students visited Judge Joseph Bianco at the Federal Court in Central Islip. They observed a naturalization ceremony where more than 75 new citizens were sworn in and then heard Judge Bianco share insights from his 30-year legal career. Students capped the day with a mock trial, taking on roles as judge, attorneys, and jurors. The trip offered a meaningful, hands-on look at the legal system and the path to citizenship.

Centereach High School Moot Court Team Excels at Long Island Competition

Congratulations to the first ever Centereach High School’s Moot Court Team for their outstanding performance at the 8th Annual Long Island Mentor Moot Court Competition, where they won one out of two arguments! The four competitors—Junior Johanna Bagnasco, Junior Molly Butler, Junior Ashley Bagnasco, and Senior Lily Collins,—presented their arguments before a distinguished panel of seasoned judges. They skillfully debated issues involving the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, focusing on custodial interrogation and the search and seizure of a cellphone in a school setting.

The Long Island Mentor Moot Court Competition asked participating teams to role-play as mock lawyers and present arguments about a fictional lawsuit, with real-life judges questioning them as they would in an actual court proceeding. The competition was held at the federal courthouse in Central Islip on December 3rd from 4:00pm-6:30pm. This event provided an invaluable opportunity for our students to gain essential legal skills, advocate for their beliefs, think on their feet, and conduct in-depth research. Well done to the team for their hard work and dedication!

NHS College Child Development Field Visit to the Unity Drive Pre-K Center

Mrs. Filomena and Ms. Stratton’s College Child Development class enjoyed an inspiring field visit to the Unity Drive Pre-K Center, where students immersed themselves in hands-on learning! This experience gave high schoolers valuable real-world insight into early childhood education, observing classroom routines, engaging with young learners, and exploring teaching strategies in action. Through active participation and meaningful interaction, students strengthened their understanding of child development while building key skills in critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving.  Learning is most powerful when it’s interactive, authentic, and fun!
