    What is Universal Pre-Kindergarten?
Universal Pre-Kindergarten is a New York State early childhood initiative.  It provides four-year-old children access, at no charge, to comprehensive early childhood education experiences that promote their social, emotional, creative, expressive, physical, cognitive, language, literacy, and cultural development.  Children are eligible if they become four years old by December 1st of the school year in which they are enrolled in the program. MCCSD UPK offers various Preschool Programs.  Our Part-day Program operates for 2 ½ hours five days per week.  The AM Session operates from 8:30 am to 11:00 am and the PM session operates from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Our Full-day operates from 8:30 to 2:25 five day per week.  Both programs operate for a total of 180 days per year following the MCCSD calendar.  Our Community Based Partners also offer Full-day MCCSD UPK with child care wrap around options.

In Universal Pre-K, we offer access to the School Breakfast and National School Lunch programs.

In Universal Pre-K, a healthy breakfast for AM and a healthy lunch for PM is available as part of our School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program.  The Middle Country Food Service plans a menu for each month.  You may qualify for free or reduced meals.  If you qualify for reduced meals, the cost of Breakfast or Lunch will be $0.25.  If you are not eligible for free or reduced meals, the cost of breakfast is $0.90 and the cost of lunch is $2.00.  If your child has food allergies, please notify the Pre-Kindergarten office by providing a doctor's note and we will make accommodations.  You may also opt to bring in a light, healthy meal for your child.  Please remember we have children who have severe allergies in our UPK classrooms, including nut allergies.  We recommend you avoid sending in nut products if at all possible.

    Thanks you

Pre-Plan birthday celebrations with your child's class.  You may plan a special birthday activity or celebration for your child.  Please see your child's teacher for guidelines. Summer birthdays are celebrated in June.

Parents need not call the school for single general absences.  However, if your child is absent for more than three consecutive sessions, please contact your child's teacher as to the special circumstances.  Please keep us updated regarding changes in your child's school plan.

Speech and language skills vary among young children.  In the event that your child's teacher suspects a problem, you will be advised to seek an outside evaluation.  If at any time you are concerned regarding your child's speech and language development, the Pre-K staff offers support and direction to the parent and child as the process for securing services begins.

Scheduled field trips throughout the year require parent participation.  Parents may be asked to drive to and from field trip sites, due to NYS car seat requirements.

School closings or delayed openings due to inclement weather are announced on local radio stations.  In case of a two hour delay, morning Pre-K classes will be cancelled.  If there is an early school closing, afternoon Pre-K will be cancelled.  Please tune to WALK 97.5 FM, WBLI 106.1 FM, or Channel 12 TV for this information.  Follow instructions given for Kindergarten and/or Pre-Kindergarten.

We look forward to working with your child, and we delight in watching him or her grow!!!
