Pictures can dramatically increase the file size of your documents. To save network space and reduce download times, you should compress all the pictures within your documents. Compressing a picture makes the color take up fewer bits per pixel, with no loss of quality.
How to Compress Pictures saved within Microsoft Office Programs:
- Double click on a picture within your document, which opens the Format Picture window. Click Compress, which opens the Compress Pictures window.
- In the Compress Picture window choose the following options:
- Apply to: All pictures in document
- Change resolution: Web/Screen
- Options: Compress pictures and Delete cropped areas of pictures
- Click OK to apply
- Save changes to document. Do not "save as" and rename, creating a duplicate of the file.
- Double click on a picture within your document, which opens the Format Picture window. Click Compress, which opens the Compress Pictures window.
