Re: COVID-2019 and SCDHS Quarantines

To All Families:

Please allow this letter to inform you that the Suffolk County Department of Health Services (SCDHS) has adopted quarantine procedures related to students and staff who may have had contact with COVID-2019.  Pursuant to these procedures, SCDHS is requiring any students or staff traveling to countries which have been designated level 2 or level 3 travel health risks because of COVID-2019 to be quarantined for up to fourteen days.  As of the writing of this letter, those countries include: China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, and Japan.  Given the continued spread of COVID-2019, the list of impacted countries can change at any time.

We urge you to avoid all travel to the above-referenced countries until these countries’ travel health notices are downgraded below level 2.  Please be aware that you are responsible for determining whether any travel plans you may have could result in a SCDHS quarantine obligation.  In the event you have or intend to travel to an impacted country, please notify the building principal.  While we urge you to avoid travel during this health crisis, please be aware that in the event SCDHS requires any students to quarantine, the District will be making accommodations to ensure students receive schoolwork to remain up to date on their courses during the quarantine period.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Respectfully Submitted,

Roberta A. Gerold, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
