Middle Country Targeted School District Designation

Middle Country School District has worked diligently to offer an outstanding education at all levels to all of its students. We are proud of our 92% graduation rate and of our students’ many accomplishments as they move through our school system.

However, on January 17th, NYSED announced that the Middle Country School District has been labeled a Targeted School District due to performance on the 3-8 NYSED Assessments which were previously administered.

Middle Country is a Targeted District because two of our elementary schools, Jericho and Stagecoach, have been identified as CSI (Comprehensive Support and Improvement schools) and any district which has any CSI school automatically becomes a Targeted District.

The composite scores for the very small numbers of students who did take the tests in each of these buildings, were measured by a complicated state formula which relies on factoring in a 95% participation rate.

Going forward, we will continue to respect parents’ personal choice for their youngsters with regard to participation in the 3-8 NYSED Assessments. Regardless of the results of one annual state assessment, we remain confident that as our children move through their elementary and middle school careers that they are receiving a high quality education. This has been continually evidenced by our outstanding middle school Algebra Regents results and an equally outstanding graduation rate.

Thank you for your continued support.
