Automotive Mechanic IV Wanted
Middle Country Central School District is looking for an Automotive Mechanic IV to run and manage our Transportation garage. This is a Suffolk County Civil Service position, candidates must reside in Suffolk County. (a) Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in either a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in automotive mechanics and four (4) years of work experience in a wide range of repair and maintenance work on the mechanical systems and components of automotive equipment; or,
(b) Six (6) years of experience in a wide range of repair and maintenance work on the mechanical systems and components of automotive equipment; or,
(c) Satisfactory equivalent combination of the above education and experience; or,
(d) Two (2) years of experience as an Automotive Mechanic III.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of the appropriate license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The type of license required will be determined by the appointing authority with respect to the type of vehicle to be operated (Class A with School Bus, Air Brake, Passenger, Tank and Tow endorsements); license must be maintained throughout employment in this title. Applicants must have knowledge of: the methods, materials, tools, and practices of the mechanical and body shop trade; the hazards and safety precautions of the trade; equipment management information systems; fuel management information systems; the service and repair of all vehicle and equipment sub-systems; the principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation; and experience and understanding of NYSDOT standards outlined in Part 721. Applicants must possess the following skills to include: operating a PC; the diagnosis and repair of motor equipment; and the use and care of tools employed in all phases of repair and maintenance. Applicants must have the ability to: effectively plan, assign work, supervise and evaluate staff performance; plan and manage a budget; perform automotive and related equipment maintenance; initiate and review work orders and determine work priorities; report work status and special problems to the Transportation Supervisor in a timely manner; follow verbal and written instructions; and perform the physical requirements of the class.
